Bridgehall residents to benefit from Stockport Academy charity success

Local charity Socially Yours is set to benefit from £400 worth of extra funding, thanks to hard work by staff and students at Stockport Academy.

The organisation aims to help people meet others and socialise with one another, and has been a charity partner of the school for some time.

While we often carry out fundraising activities to help support this very worthwhile cause, the latest money to be donated has been made possible after our chaplain, Karen Beale, won a £200 grant via Stockport Council’s ‘You Say, We Pay’ initiative to host afternoon tea for Socially Yours members.

However, this money ended up being doubled when Mrs McCann and Mrs Guard from our charity committee went to pick the cheque up at a special community day in Bridgehall on Saturday (March 14th).

The event involved putting together a display to demonstrate how the grant would be spent, and judges were so impressed with the effort they went to and the enthusiasm on show that they awarded them a further £200 to spend on their idea – taking the grand total to £400.

Mrs McCann said: “It was a really fun day and can’t believe we won the extra funding to help Socially Yours. The grant will make a huge difference to the people who use the charity, and we can’t wait to carry out our plans.”
