Like all SMSC Days at the Academy, the one held in November was a day to remember, with one of the highlights undoubtedly being the release of 100 balloons to raise awareness of Anti-Bullying Week.
On November 21st, our peer mentors let go of the blue and white balloons in a spectacular showpiece, while holding up a Bullying Intervention Group banner that displayed the campaign message ‘Talk to the Hand’.
Inside every balloon was a small card that said: “Please support Stockport Academy ‘Stamp Out Bullying’ by sending us a tweet and letting us know where our balloon has landed.”
Now – nearly five months on – we are still receiving messages from across the north-west from passers-by who have stumbled upon where the balloons have landed.
Yesterday (April 8th), Mr Andrew Boyes got in touch with the Academy’s twitter account (@sptacademy) to say he’d found a balloon in Brindle, Lancashire – nearly 40 miles away from where we let them go!
Mrs Fox, the Academy’s safeguarding officer and SMSC Coordinator, said: “Our SMSC Diversity Day on November 21st really was an amazing day where the atmosphere around the school was buzzing from start to finish.
“The balloon release was definitely an event we won’t be forgetting, and the fact the Stamp Out Bullying message is still being heard all over the region, as a result of what our students did that day, is incredibly rewarding.”
If you find one of our balloons, we’d love to hear where it’s ended up!
