Acts of bravery can be found in all shapes and sizes, and one of our Year 7 pupils has certainly demonstrated that she’s braver than most – and has a heart of gold in the process.
For many years, Leah Collins-Tait has wanted to donate her hair to children who have lost theirs after being diagnosed with cancer, and during the Easter break she did just that.
“I said to my Mum that I wanted to donate my hair to charity and she found me a website that would let me do it,” Leah said.
After arranging the deed with the Little Princess Trust, she went to her hairdresser, who tied her hair in two plaits before taking off a whole 17 inches!
“I was kind of nervous,” Leah admitted. “But I felt really sorry for the children who’ve got cancer and really wanted to do something to help.”
Leah doesn’t plan to stop there, though. She reckons it’ll take another seven years to grow her hair back to its previous length, at which point she plans to do it all again. In the meantime, she also wants to take part in a charity run to raise money to find a cure for the disease.
Well done Leah – we’re all proud of you and you are a true inspiration to Stockport Academy.
