School Council welcomes Mayor to Stockport Academy

Our school council took advantage of an exciting opportunity to question the Mayor of Stockport, when he and his wife visited the school today.

Mayor Kevin Hogg spent nearly two hours with the students, who first explained to him what the school council is, how it works and why they enjoy getting involved with it.

He then returned the favour, telling them about how the town council operated and suggesting ideas on how the school council could be run in the future.

The students then led a question and answer session, touching on points such as what the Mayor’s job involves, what some of the main issues in Stockport are, and how the electoral process works.

They were also invited to visit the town council for a tour and learn more about life in local politics.

After a brief lunch, the Mayor was taken on a tour of the Academy’s facilities, taking in the Faith Room, Main Hall, The Hub, the Refectory and the Dance Studio.

The Mayor, Councillor Kevin Hogg said: “I think they [the school council] are wonderful. They will be the future. We are ready to hand over power to the next generation and they are the future of this town. They were brilliant.

“The facilities here are second to none, and I’d advise anybody that can come to this school to come to this school. I look forward to seeing the results of this Academy over the years, because it’s going to be one of the stars of Stockport.”
