Goal Ball success for Stockport Academy students

Two of our Goal Ball teams have done the school proud after performing brilliantly in a tournament at Kingsway School.
But what is Goal Ball? It’s a Paralympic sport, which involves three players on each team being blindfolded before trying to roll a ball into their opponents goal. The defending team will try to block the ball by lying down in front of the goal and can only locate the ball by listening out for the bell inside it.
The game is as difficult as it sounds, which is all the more reason to be impressed that our Boys’ Year 9 team – consisting of Brandon Scully, Hakeem Khaliq and Yarik Gorkovenko – won the competition. They will now go on to represent Stockport in the Sainsbury’s School Games Tournament this summer.
Meanwhile, our Year 8 Girls’ team – made up of Paige Doolan, Macey Orchard-Stone and Ellie Jones – came 3rd in their tournament, representing a very successful sporting day for Stockport Academy!
