Stockport Academy celebrates Kindness Day

Stockport Academy has been a venue of extra goodwill, care and affection today (June 12th), as students celebrated Kindness Day.
Setting the tone right from the start was the school’s peer mentors, who gave away sweets to pupils coming in for morning registration. Meanwhile, others were encouraged to create kindness bunting by writing down a kind act they intended to carry out on a flag that would later be used to decorate the premises.
The entire day was captured on camera by a team sent by the Diana Awards, with the prestigious organisation choosing Stockport Academy as one of a handful of showcase schools. Students, staff and parents were interviewed and filmed by the crew, who gave them the opportunity to express themselves on what the school is doing to tackle bullying.
Part of this involved former Waterloo Road actress Becky Craven meeting pupils and speaking to them about their role as anti-bullying ambassadors.
As usual, the school was a hive of activity, with dance performances and bake sales taking place throughout break, with proceeds from the latter going towards the school charities – Smile International and MacMillan.
Mrs Nicholls, who helped organised the Kindness Day activities, said: “It was an honour for the people at the Diana Awards to choose Stockport Academy as a showcase school, and we can’t thank them enough for recognising the hard work of our students to ensure the atmosphere and attitude right across the school is one of positivity and inclusivity.
“Our students really got involved in Kindness Day, and it is inspirational to see the lengths they have gone to in order to make a positive impact on the lives of others.”
