Human Hungry Hippos!

This week with DofE we played Hungry Hippos - which was more challenging than we expected!
We were split off into 3 different teams - red, blue, and yellow. Then we had a practice with people on the skateboards and other people pushing them towards the centre where the paddling pool of coloured balls were. Each team had to get to the middle of the hall and get one of their team's coloured balls, one at a time. We had to do this without falling off the skateboard or without crashing into the paddling pool. If we fell off, crashed, or even touched the floor, we had to go back to the beginning and start again.
In order to win, each team had to work together to collect as many balls of their colour as they could. However, some teams had better tactics than others. Then we did the proper game. At one point, even Mr Molloy and Mr Taylor joined in with the yellow team. The main reason that most people fell off the skateboards was because they leaned too far to the edge and fell forwards off the board. Some people had a tactic of being pushed and then shuffling or twisting so that they could get closer to the paddling pool. It did take a while until people got the hang of the whole game, but it worked in the end. This task encouraged the teams to communicate and work together to support each other to improve our ability in a competitive game in order to improve our results.
Overall, I really enjoyed the hungry hippos week (Friday 8th February 2019) and I would love to do it again. I'm pretty sure that most of the team enjoyed it too, we all had a good laugh and we worked all worked really well as a team. I can't wait to see what exciting challenges are yet to come for me and the rest of us in our DofE team.
